In classic democrat political theater, during President Donald Trump’s first term the issue of the 25th Amendment was raised repeatedly by the left to cast doubts about Donald Trump and his fitness to be president. But when Joe Biden entered the Oval Office, a man whose decline was obvious even to those who only mildly follow politics, nary a word was spoken.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I found it painful to watch an American president make such a fool of himself on the world stage. It was patently obvious to anyone with eyes that Joe Biden was incapable of performing the duties of the presidency, yet no one in the Democrat Party or the legacy media raised the alarm. And to this day, we still don’t know who was running the government for the last four years, but one thing is certain, it wasn’t Joe Biden.
Now we learn many of Biden’s cabinet secretaries weren’t able to speak with the president for months at a time, yet again, not a word was said from those who should have been closest to him. This comprised more than a simple dereliction of duty by the democrats and the legacy media, this was a clear display of moral turpitude and cowardice in an effort to hang onto power.
Whenever I hear a democrat rail about a constitutional crisis or “the threat to democracy” I can only shake my head because by its actions the Democrat Party has revealed to all who care to take note, the real threat to democratic norms is coming from within the Democrat Party itself. A statement that has meaning only to those who are willing to examine recent political history with an open mind.
Consider the Democrat Party’s approach to its own nomination processes. Since Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008, the Democrat Party has not had an open and competitive presidential primary – that was sixteen years ago! In 2016, leaked emails exposed the Democratic National Committee’s clear favoritism toward Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. And while no formal rules were broken, the process was widely perceived as rigged, which led to the resignation of the DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. C’mon, if the fix wasn’t in, why did she resign?
This grotesque pattern was repeated in 2020, despite the fact that Bernie Sanders had once again was gaining traction. But the party establishment knew Bernie, an avowed socialist, couldn’t win a general election even against Donald Trump, so it quickly coalesced around Joe Biden because he was “safe,” but more importantly, malleable.
Then, just about the time Kamala Harris was ordered to tap down her rhetoric against Barack Obama during the primary debates, James Clyborne and other “moderates” began clearing the path for Biden. Unbelievably, this top-down approach that short-circuited a broader debate within the party’s base didn’t raise any red flags as the democrats of 2020 were doing the type of smoke-filled backroom politicking that was the norm in the 50’s and 60’s, when presidential primaries didn’t exist.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris dropped out of the 2020 race before a single vote was cast – begging the question, did she do this due to lack of support or because she angered the anointed one or perhaps the wheels were already in motion to put her on the ticket as the vice-presidential candidate? After all, she checked all the right boxes.
Yes, Harris was a woman, but even better, she was a “woman of color,” but did anyone ever check her bona fides? And let’s face it, she never faced any meaningful public vetting regarding her actual qualifications through the entire primary process. In 2024, we witnessed yet another election cycle when the Democrat Party opted not to hold competitive primaries, despite growing concerns over President Biden’s age, his cognitive abilities and his health in general.
Enter hypocrite Jake Tapper and his book Original Sin that details the growing body evidence that party officials and legacy media deliberately downplayed Biden’s decline and thus prevented voters from making a fully informed choice. What the Democrat Party did was not a practice in democracy, rather, it was gatekeeping masquerading as leadership and reminiscent of the former Soviet Union’s Politburo.
But the real irony in the matter is those same institutions who propped up Biden continue the narrative that Trump threatens democracy – the democrats and the legacy media would make Joseph Goebbels proud.
I’ll close this post by stating this entire matter is beyond ironic or even hypocritical. It’s Kafkaesque, and marked by a complex, bizarre, and illogical quality involving ill-defined bureaucracies and absurdity that has silenced internal dissent, given us nominees selected behind closed doors, and collaborated with a willing media to manage public perception. So, if by democracy we mean transparency, open debate, and informed consent of the governed, then we should be asking hard questions about which party has actually been undermining those principles.
