The phrase “hoist by their own petard” originated in the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare. In the play, Shakespeare used a clever turn of phrase where “petard” refers to a small explosive device used in siege warfare.  And in this context, “hoist” means to be blown upward or lifted by the force of the explosion—essentially, someone being harmed by the very tool they intended to use against someone else.  And although it retains its dramatic roots, the phrase is now mostly used in a figurative sense, capturing the irony of being victim to one’s own trap, which is exactly what’s occurring within the Democrat Party.

Meanwhile, the first month of the second Trump term has featured a dizzying array or Executive Orders and policy initiatives.  Trump has challenged Panama; he’s talked about taking over Gaza and buying Greenland.  He’s suggested that Canada become the 51st state with G.O.A.T. player Wayne Gretzky as Prime Minister.  He’s renamed the Gulf of Mexico and banished the Associated Press from the White House briefing room for refusing to go along.  He’s labeled Zelenskyy a dictator who doesn’t hold elections but quickly sent a U.S. envoy to Ukraine to publicly say is a brave guy.   He’s fired a number of bureaucrats in D.C. and placed tariffs on any nation that uses tariffs on us while allowing Elon Musk to do whatever he needs to do to eliminate waste, abuse and fraud in government.

Yet to the Left, the goal of eliminating waste, abuse and fraud is abject apostacy.  Trump took the oath of office on January 20th the Democrats and since that time, the democrats have failed organize around a unified or unifying message to effectively oppose the president.   Trump is moving at warp speed to reshape the government, and the democrats are at a total loss as to what to do about it.

And in the for what it’s worth department; I suspect real reason Left is floundering is because it does not have a message that resonates with the American people.  As a result, frustration grows over Trump’s efforts to find waste, abuse and fraud and then dismantle those parts of the federal government, leaving them with nothing to do except grandstand and make themselves look foolish in the process.

~ When you don’t have anything to say it’s better to remain quiet!

Recently on CBS’ Face the Nation Margaret Brennan lectured Secretary of State Marco Rubio telling him that free speech was a root cause of the Holocaust.  (Yes, she actually said that.)  https://san.com/cc/cbs-margaret-brennan-links-holocaust-to-free-speech-bias-breakdown/.   Then there was Chuck Schumer posting on X “The flight took off from Minneapolis. The FAA was still responsible for inspecting the aviation equipment, and Trump just let go of FAA safety specialists,” intimating that somehow it was Trump’s fault even though no Air Traffic controllers had been fired.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75jjw0DpDfQ.   Then there’s the outrage when the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington announced that the Kennedy Center had canceled its upcoming Pride Month show titled A Peacock Among Pigeons, based on the LGBTQ+-inclusive children’s book of the same name only to learn that the presentation was cancelled during the Biden administration due to poor ticket sales; and of course, no one can forget the unctuous Chuck Schumer riffing about Corona beer and avocadoes. https://www.outkick.com/culture/chuck-schumer-corona-beer-video-reactions

Their latest outrage is that Trump is siding with Putin in Ukraine, but how conveniently they forget that the Trump did not start this war; quite the contrary as his administration handed Joe Biden peace in Europe and peace in the Middle East, a secure border and an inflation rate of 1.23% .

In turn, Biden handed Trump a war in Europe, a war in the Middle East, 13,000,000 unvetted illegal aliens crossing our border and inflation rates of   4.7%, 8%, 4.12% and 3% during his four years.  As I wrote to a long-time friend and former business consultant,  “You and I were in the business world, and we know what it’s like first-hand what it takes to make positive changes to a culture much less turn a small company around.  And vis-à-vis that, the immenseness of the job Trump has chosen to take on is beyond description.”

I also wrote that the biggest mistake the democrats have made this century was attaching themselves to what Barack Obama campaigned on and won on, i.e., that “Fundamental change was coming to America.”  But that fundamental change included on-going wars, the de facto elimination of the southern border a large part of our $37,000,000,000,000 debt, the cancel culture and woke ideology in general.

Ironically, Trump took the same approach as Obama and has done nothing he did not campaign on.  The democrat lawsuits are roadblocks but most of his policies are both legal and within the bounds of the Constitution, or at least that’s the way it appears thus far.  Both parties have caused the fiscal nightmare our nation is experiencing; it’s just that the democrats made a mistake after Obama won of predicating their message on woke ideology, i.e., ‘fundamental change’ instead of common sense, so now the democrats find themselves defending positions that are extremely unpopular with the voting public.

For example, 79% of Americans are against men competing in women’s sports and 87% of American adults support deporting undocumented immigrants who have criminal records, a figure that reflects strong backing for removing those deemed to pose a criminal threat, rather than a blanket deportation of all undocumented immigrants. Those are no win issues, yet the democrats continue to fight for them.

Donald Trump has been in office but a month; and the wise move for the democrats might be taking a wait and see attitude before embarrassing themselves further.
