True to form the democrats unveiled an education platform which is the same old thing with emphasis on universal pre-K and free community college and against “private school vouchers.” When you read the platform below, they want us to believe they’ve accomplished something during the last four years with emphasis on President Biden’s student debt relief giveaway. But they offer no details about how they might measure improvement in our education system but insist they know what’s best for American school children.
The following is taken directly from the Democrat Party platform – “Education is fundamental to the idea of America and to fulfilling our nation’s promise. It is the key to addressing the challenges before us—to growing our economy, maintaining American competitiveness on the world stage, and building a more just, equitable, civically engaged, and socially conscientious nation. As Democrats, we believe that education is a critical public good—not a commodity—and that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that every child, everywhere, is able to receive a world-class education that enables them to lead meaningful lives, no matter their race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, disability status, language status, immigration or citizenship status, household income or ZIP code.”
Blah, blah, blah, all I can think about is just more self-serving rhetoric because if their policies had actually been successful, i.e., improved test scores, doesn’t it stand to reason they would tout those successes in their platform? So, why didn’t they? Perhaps it’s because the results of their efforts, placed the U.S. 16th out of 81 countries in recent testing, despite the fact that the United States spends more money per pupil than any country in the world except for Luxemburg. And even with all that spending (during this last fiscal year, the US spent $19,973 per pupil, which is 38% higher than the OECD average) we still fell below the international standard on test scores.
In the 1960s when the party platforms on education were almost identical, the United States had the best-education system in the world as evinced by our kids’ test scores. So, why a half century later is it that the United States consistently outspends just about every nation on earth on education, yet our public school system consistently fails to provide a quality education for our kids. Is it possible that political affiliation may have something to do with that result? Consider the following, the National Education Association, American Federation of Teachers and the AFT Solidarity gave in excess of $26 million dollars to democrat candidates and or liberal groups & causes, last year, while giving just $43 thousand dollars to republican candidates and or conservative groups and causes.
The sad reality is that America’s public school teachers’ unions have more influence in the Democrat party than any other quantifiable political interest group. In fact, the teachers’ unions actually dictate the position of the Democrat party on every issue they take an interest in. The latest and perhaps most classic example of their malfeasance was their grotesque machinations during the Pandemic that cost at least an entire year’s academic progress to the entirety of the nation’s public school system; and this in spite of the hard medical evidence indicating that healthy children and teachers (who are seldom over 55 years old) were at minimal risk of either contracting the virus or if they did, of getting seriously ill.
The Democrat Party’s position on education isn’t about educating children – it’s about funneling as much taxpayer money into DEI and woke ideology as they can, then fight “like the devil” to thwart initiatives like school choice which allows parents actually have a say in their kids’ education.
We have an election coming up, and I encourage all clear-thinking Americans to look at the results of policy instead of believing the Democrat Party platform on the matter before entering the voting booth next November.
I’ll close this post by saying that I realize the pandemic is in the rearview mirror and educating our kids may not be a top priority for most Americans; but the way our children were dissed during the pandemic bordered on criminal. And let’s be clear, what occurred was completely the result of the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, and do we really want more of this disregard for our children? And if you think public education in the U.S. couldn’t get any worse, think again, because truth be known, a Harris administration will only increase the downward spiral.
