Walter Cronkite was an American broadcast journalist who served as anchorman for the CBS Evening News for 19 years (1962–1981).  During the 1960s and 1970s, he was often cited as the “Father of television journalism” and even more importantly, “the most trusted man in America” after being so named in a national opinion poll.  So well regarded was Cronkite, that President Lyndon Johnson is said to have quipped, “If I lose Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America,” a comment that spoke volumes about Cronkite’s influence on America’s attitude towards the war in Vietnam.

Cronkite is most remembered for his signature signoff “…and that’s the way it is.”  But perhaps it’s a lesser-known quote that provides a greater insight into the man, and why he was ‘the most trusted man in America ‘- “In seeking truth, you have to get both sides of a story.”

But the days of unbiased media coverage and the likes of Walter Cronkite or Edward R. Murrow are long gone.  At the same time, Gallup tells us that just 16% of Americans have a great deal of confidence in newspapers and only 11% have the same the degree of confidence in television news.  Such a sad, sad commentary on American journalism.

Which brings me to the January 6th hearings and the democrats’ purpose in holding them.  Historically, congress conducts hearings for one of three reasons, 1) to consider pending legislation, 2) to investigate issues that may require legislation in the future, and 3) to investigate and oversee federal programs. Hearings then, reflect the most important issues of the day and what occupies congressional attention.

~ …the most important issue of the day? ~

Considering the hoopla surrounding the hearings and the fact they’re being broadcast in prime time, the democrats & the legacy media must feel that the events that occurred on January 6th, 2020, falls under the third category – the most important issues of the day and by deduction, more important than…

  • the southern border where 3,000,000 immigrants from more than 180 countries have illegally entered our country since January 6th, and where more fentanyl has entered our country from Mexico than at any time in history…and this after the fentanyl smuggling had been reduced by 90% during the previous administration.
  • inflation that’s at 9.1%
  • energy prices at an all-time high and where price at the pump is in excess of $5.00 a gallon.
  • the supply chain crisis that has left mothers of newborns scrambling to find baby formula
  • a crime wave that’s sweeping America, but centered on democrat run cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc.
  • the loss of our Persian Gulf listening post to keep watch on Iran and China, and where we blind-sided our allies (who btw, responded with disbelief at what they considered a betrayal and damaged the moral and political credibility of the U.S.), and where Joe Biden gave the Taliban in excess of $80 billion in military equipment.

To put this into perspective, for the democrats, who took control of all the levers of government 18 months ago, this is their high-water mark, and what an accomplishment it is.  The “insurrectionists” didn’t kill anyone on January 6th, the only individual killed was an unarmed female protestor who was shot by a Capitol policeman who gave no “stop or I’ll shoot” warming.  Additionally, no weapons were discharged or even displayed by these insurrectionists, and nothing was burned nor destroyed.

Now compare the “insurrection” with the “peaceful BLM protests” of 2020 that saw 37 killed, more than 2,000 police officers injured and property damage in excess of $2,000,000,000.  Yet the democrats have conducted no hearings even though as many as 26,000,000 people participated in those “peaceful protests”, versus the 1,000 “insurrectionists.”  (As an aside, we should find it interesting that no one has ever been charged with insurrection—rather the charges have been for misdemeanors such as parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

The democrats are focusing on January 6th is because they have nothing, absolutely nothing else to talk about.   They certainly can’t talk about the economy for obvious reasons, they can’t talk about crime, because it’s running rampant, they can’t talk about…well, I think you get the picture.  The bottom line is the January 6thhearings are all they have.

But the truly dangerous aspect of the hearing is its motivation. Previously I cited the usual reason for congressional hearings, i.e., matters of legislation or reviewing both pending and prospective federal programs, but January 6th has a different motivation—unadulterated hatred of Donald Trump.

Some make light of the term TDS, but TDS is not a joke, it’s deadly serious and it is slowly devouring the very fabric of our nation like a cancer.  And whenever I encounter a Trump-hater I always ask why they feel as they do.  Do date, I have never received a cogent answer.

I wish I had the answer to this insanity, nonetheless, the reality is that the January 6th hearings are little more than TDS on steroids, but truly sad and dangerous aspect of all this is it’s being glorified by a biased and dishonest media.
